NED Robot Team Sponsored

A team of NED University students decide to build a “Two Wheel Self Balancing & Multitasking Robot”. They pooled PRS 12,000 (Twelve Thousand) and bought components needed for their project. They ran into a financial crunch as a critical component (a Panda Board) they needed had a price tag of PRS 20,000. The team turned to Koshish Foundation for assistance. On a strong recommendation of Professor Shoaib Zaidi (Chairman, Department of Electronics Engineering), Awais Nemat (a Koshish member and successful serial entrepreneur based in Silicon Valley, California) agreed to sponsor the project.

On Saturday, Jan/28/2012 a check for PRS 20,000 (Twenty Thousand) was handed over to the jubilant team members. Jamal Rajput, Faysal Lakhani (Koshish Foundation) and Professor Shoaib Zaidi (NED University) were also present at this occasion.

Wildlife & Environment Magazine

Oct/15/2011
Wildlife & Environment, a quarterly magazine from Karachi, is Pakistan’s premiere publication on country’s environmental issues and its dwindling wildlife. For the last two decades the magazine’s editor, S. Khurshid Ali, has been working against all odds to bring out the magazine with regularity.

To recognize the services of Mr. Khurshid Ali to the greater society, members of Koshish Foundation met him at his office. At this uplifting occasion a certificate of excellence and PRS 170,000 (PRS One Hundred Seventy Thousand) were handed over to Mr. Khurshid Ali. Courage to follow once passion against all odds, was the most valuable take away from this event.

Research Center - Initiative

Initiative Details
 Objective:
Provide enabling atmosphere and financial incentive to the motivated individuals to learn emerging technologies, carry out independent research, publish papers, and solve challenging problems.
Seek support from individuals and companies to become "Research Sponsors".
Bring into being a pool of individuals to guide the scholars.

Research Topics:

 VLSI Design
 Software Engineering
 Genetic Engineering
 Biomedical & Bioinformatics
 Nanotechnology

Research Sponsor:

Individuals, Companies or Organizations will act as Research Sponsors. Research Sponsor will provide the necessary funding, hardware, software to carry out The Research. Research Sponsor will propose a well define, time bound Research Project that The Scholars will take on.

The Location:

The Research centers will be a collaboration between an Accredited (HEC Recognized) Institute/University –AND- Koshish Foundation. The center will be physically located at University/Institute campus, inside or in close proximity to the related department(s), It will be equipped with computers, laser printer(s), high-speed internet connectivity, and necessary software/hardware needed for research. A comfortable and enabling environment will be created at the center - e.g. flexible work hours. The center will provide IEEE / ACM membership to access research publications.

The Scholars:

The Scholars will be able to get involved in research work while pursuing or after completing their BE/MS/PhD degrees. Scholars working on a Research Project will get appropriate monthly stipend. Each Research Project will have a Technical Mentor – a well qualified and experience person from Academia or Industry. The Mentor will provide need-based guidance to The Scholars.

Incentives Offered To The Scholars:

Assistance in securing admissions at Foreign Universities.
Assistance in placement at a US/Multinational Companies.
Assistance in publishing/presenting The Research Work.
Assistance in become Foreign University Affiliates.
Monthly stipend while doing The Research.

TopicNanotechnology
Study the design, modeling, fabrication, computation and theory of the electrical and mechanical properties of Nanotubes. Carbon Nanotubes are extremely thin (their diameter is about 10,000 times smaller than a human hair), hollow cylinders made of carbon atoms.

Topic(s)Bioinformatics
Disease Database and Management:
Work with major hospitals to track and store disease information. Would be useful in identifying the demographics and temporal information regarding sicknesses and thus providing targeted disease management. Work would start first with the more prevalent diseases.

Dissemination of medical knowledge:
Development of low cost protocols for dissemination of current medical knowledge to doctors, patients and population in large.

Search Genes:
Develop datamining and statistical models and tools to find and characterize genes of major functions for different crop varieties.

Bioinformatic Databases Integration:
One of the major problems of current bioinformatics databases is that the data is scattered around in heterogeneous data sources. Tools and interfaces are needed to closes these gaps and provide easier access to the data.
